As the courtroom doors shut behind her, Christina Carter felt a sense of foreboding. Her soon-to-be ex-husband had finally agreed to an out-of-court settlement, but something didn't sit right with her. Walking down the deserted hallway, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was walking into a trap.
She arrived at the agreed-upon location: a secluded office with a desk and a sofa occupying most of the space. He was already there, standing by the window and looking out onto the cityscape. Without turning around, he gestured for her to sit on the sofa.
As she obeyed, her heart raced in her chest. Something about his demeanor seemed off. She sat down, her hands trembling in her lap, unable to shake off the feeling of unease. Suddenly, she felt a presence behind her. It was him. He'd walked around the desk and now stood directly behind her.
Without warning, he grabbed her by the arms and pinned them above her head. Before she could react, he'd grabbed some rope off the desk and started binding her wrists together. She tried to struggle, but it was no use; she was tied up tightly.
Panic set in as she realized what was happening. Her ex-husband was going to kidnap her! Tears welled up in her eyes as he continued to bind her, knot after knot. With each passing moment, she felt more helpless and alone.
Finally, when she was tied up as tightly as he could make her, he produced a sock from his pocket and stuffed it into her mouth. Then, he took a length of duct tape and taped it shut, sealing her lips together. She couldn't even scream for help.
He stood back to admire his handiwork, a smile playing on his lips. Christina lay there, trussed up like a chicken, unable to move or even cry out. He'd left her on the floor, completely at his mercy.
Hours passed, and still, she remained bound and gagged. Her ex-husband had left her there, alone in the office. She could feel the sweat trickling down her back as she struggled against the ropes, trying desperately to free herself. But the more she struggled, the tighter they seemed to become.
Finally, she heard the click of the door opening. Her heart leapt into her throat as she waited for him to approach. Instead, she saw a woman in a police uniform enter the room. The officer quickly assessed the situation and called for backup.
As the paramedics arrived, they carefully cut away the ropes binding Christina. She sobbed uncontrollably as they removed the gag from her mouth. She'd never been so relieved to feel the cool air on her skin.
In the end, her ex-husband was arrested and charged with kidnapping. Through it all, Christina couldn't shake the feeling that she'd narrowly escaped a fate far worse than she'd ever imagined.
